For this evaluation the customers system was not cooling. The blower was running but neither the compressor nor fan was. The compressor would kick on when the cobra or was manually engaged but the fan wouldn’t. The capacitor was well within tolerance and the system had both high voltage and a call for low voltage cooling at the field wiring and defrost control board but not on the sides of the contactor. When I tested continuity between the high pressure switch I got an OL reading meaning the HPS was stuck open. The LPS was closed however as I did have continuity. With what I was seeing it was telling me that the condenser fan motor was failed but not seized, and the HOS was stuck open and not allowing 24V to pass to the contactor. I explained to the customer what I found and the dangers of doing extensive repairs on a system out of warranty. The customer elected to speak with a Comfort Advisor.
for this job, I did an evaluation. When I arrived, the thermostat was on outdoor and indoor were off. While doing my eval the outdoor kicked on, but the indoor remained off. System would run but the indoor blower fan was not coming on and smoke began to develop on the motor. Diagnosed as bad ecm motor. Homeowner said to call him on Monday to verify how long it would take for the part.
System has open start circuit problems. Today I installed a new easy start to erase this issue. System up amps are 54 and should get lower after 5 start up.
