How Do You Know If You Need AC Repair?
Knowing the signs of an air conditioning malfunction can help you identify pending problems before they become a huge headache. It's important to have your unit inspected at the first sign of an issue to prevent bigger, costly repairs down the road.
Your AC May Need Repair If:
The airflow isn't as strong as it used to be. If the AC has weak airflow, make sure your filters are changed and all of your settings are correct. Check the vents to make sure there is no debris blocking the air. Especially if you have pets that shed hair a lot, you’ll find that particles and hair will get trapped and cause the airflow to slow down. The unit is over 10 years old. Your AC unit can last a decade or more when properly cared for, but it only has this kind of longevity when you take care of the routine maintenance and have it serviced annually. There are many tasks that you can perform on your own, but a yearly check-up will ensure that everything is running smoothly. The thermostat temperature doesn't match the indoor temperature. If the airflow is good but the temperature in your home doesn’t match the reading on the AC thermostat, then you have a problem. There might be an issue with your thermostat, but it could also be an issue with the unit itself. The AC is making unusual noises. If your AC unit seems like it’s working hard or you hear sounds that aren’t normal, you’ll want to have your unit checked out. There are many different factors that can cause this. Sometimes a piece of debris may get trapped in the unit and is easily removed, and other times it can be more severe.
AC Repair Vs. Replacement
In the Texas heat, you have two options when your AC breaks down: repair or replacement. After an expert inspects your unit, they may find that all it needs is a simple fix to get going again. Sometimes, though, the unit is beyond repair or too old to justify a fix. In some cases, replacement is the more cost-effective, long-term solution.
Your AC May Need To Be Replaced If:
It's old or outdated. Exactly how long your AC lasts depends on the brand, how it’s used and how well it’s maintained by a licensed professional. If the AC is more than 8 years old you may opt to replace the unit as opposed to sinking more money into a unit that’s coming close to the end of its life. It needs repair after repair. If you’ve had multiple repairs over the last few years you should consider a replacement. While our Benbrook AC repair experts are always willing to repair your AC, it shouldn't need a fix every season. It requires outdated parts for repair. Since the beginning of 2020, all manufacturing of R22 Freon has ceased. Using the banned coolant is still permissible but it’s only going to get more expensive as it becomes increasingly scarce. If your AC requires banned or outdated parts, it may be time to replace it.

2011 Payne 5 ton straight electric. Biological growth inside indoor air handler, compromised indoor air quality. Leaks detected in a rusty evaporator coil. Heavy dust build up in ducting and plenum- needs a duct cleaning. Electric Heatstrip kit OHMs are below manufacturer specifications - increased utility bills in the winter months. Condenser has a failing capacitor. Refrigerant levels are starting to reduce, showing higher subcool than manufacturer specifications- confirms leaks found in the evaporator coil. I discussed with the customer at length about the options s available. CA appointment 9/23/23 @10am to discuss upgrading to a more reliable and efficient system.

On this job I cleared closet drian line by cutting out and washing it. I then reinstalled it and ran 3gallons of bleach down the drain and watched it drain out. System wet switch is reset and system is cooling
Mike R.
Board was simply locked out not showing any error codes I reset the board and tighten all low voltage connections on the condenser. Pressure is spot on and there no over amping.

On arrival the upstairs system was not running and cooling. I removed and replaced the completely open dual run capicator on the outdoor unit. The compressor and fan turned on. The compressor was running at 3 run amps and not pumping refridgerant, the system did not cool. I recommended speaking to a comfort advisor about replacement and he did not want to at this time. I only serviced one system and credited the second service fee to the cost of the capicator. Thanks for choosing comfort experts and have a great day!
