How Do You Know If You Need AC Repair?
Knowing the signs of an air conditioning malfunction can help you identify pending problems before they become a huge headache. It's important to have your unit inspected at the first sign of an issue to prevent bigger, costly repairs down the road.
Your AC May Need Repair If:
The airflow isn't as strong as it used to be. If the AC has weak airflow, make sure your filters are changed and all of your settings are correct. Check the vents to make sure there is no debris blocking the air. Especially if you have pets that shed hair a lot, you’ll find that particles and hair will get trapped and cause the airflow to slow down. The unit is over 10 years old. Your AC unit can last a decade or more when properly cared for, but it only has this kind of longevity when you take care of the routine maintenance and have it serviced annually. There are many tasks that you can perform on your own, but a yearly check-up will ensure that everything is running smoothly. The thermostat temperature doesn't match the indoor temperature. If the airflow is good but the temperature in your home doesn’t match the reading on the AC thermostat, then you have a problem. There might be an issue with your thermostat, but it could also be an issue with the unit itself. The AC is making unusual noises. If your AC unit seems like it’s working hard or you hear sounds that aren’t normal, you’ll want to have your unit checked out. There are many different factors that can cause this. Sometimes a piece of debris may get trapped in the unit and is easily removed, and other times it can be more severe.
AC Repair Vs. Replacement
In the Texas heat, you have two options when your AC breaks down: repair or replacement. After an expert inspects your unit, they may find that all it needs is a simple fix to get going again. Sometimes, though, the unit is beyond repair or too old to justify a fix. In some cases, replacement is the more cost-effective, long-term solution.
Your AC May Need To Be Replaced If:
It's old or outdated. Exactly how long your AC lasts depends on the brand, how it’s used and how well it’s maintained by a licensed professional. If the AC is more than 8 years old you may opt to replace the unit as opposed to sinking more money into a unit that’s coming close to the end of its life. It needs repair after repair. If you’ve had multiple repairs over the last few years you should consider a replacement. While our Benbrook AC repair experts are always willing to repair your AC, it shouldn't need a fix every season. It requires outdated parts for repair. Since the beginning of 2020, all manufacturing of R22 Freon has ceased. Using the banned coolant is still permissible but it’s only going to get more expensive as it becomes increasingly scarce. If your AC requires banned or outdated parts, it may be time to replace it.

Repaired leak in suction line. Purged with nitrogen, pulled a vacuum and charged system with 16lbs of R410a refrigerant. System operating as it should upon departure.
colby.finch@acgenius.com
On arrival system was off. I turned the system on and the Compressor was pulling a low amp draw and thermally overloaded in 3 minutes. System is completely out of refrigerant after having 4 pounds put in it a week prior. I recommended replacing the system due to it's advanced age and condition and the cost of repairs.

For this eval I inspected the furnace and condenser. Homeowners stated it was blowing air but not cold air and wouldn't reach desired temperature at 73°. Upon inspecting the condenser I noticed it wasn't even running and would not start, I threw a temporary capacitor on and reset the pressure switch and that got it running. I like searched the furnace and did not find a leak however I searched the condenser and found a leak in the back right side of the condenser near the compressor. This machine is well over 15 years old and uses R-22 refrigerant. I informed the homeowner of what I found and is options, and he elected to get in touch with Rob and set a meeting for Monday at 3:00 p.m.
cody.brooks@acgenius.com
04/12/24 : techs Cody and Hunter arrived at customer's home, we were guided inside to the thermostat and indoor unit. As we were verify that the unit was running we found that the outdoor unit was not turning on. The unit gave a low pressure fault code, so we hooked up the guages and found the system had no charge. We conducted a leak search and found one at the indoor coil, we did not have the tools on hand to repair the leak. We charged the system and got the unit to turn on so the customer would have cooling this weekend and conducted as much of the tune as we could inside. A more senior tech will come out Monday to repair the leak and complete the rest of the tune up.

For the super tune-up I inspected the air handler and condenser. All equipment was measuring within many pictures specs and running well. Due to the condenser being DC powered, I recommend a whole home surge protector. Additionally a drain treatment strip to prevent drain clogs.

Inspection Homes pressure is 80 psi No clean outs for sewer present Water heater is a 2010 showing signs of wear. Rest of plumbing in home is older but not leaks at this time
garrett.young@acgenius.com
For this super tune-up I inspected the air handler and condenser. All equipment was measuring within manufacturers specs and running well. Due to it raining I was not able to gauge up and measure the refrigerant levels however based on how the system is running I do not foresee any issues due to refrigerant levels. I went in the attic and inspected the insulation and based off measurements, the insulation is below EPA recommendations at 13 r value. I recommend adding insulation. Additionally I recommend adding a compressor saver to the condenser, surge protection on the house panel, and UV lights to kill and minimize future biological growth.
