Thoroughly performed a heating tune up for a gas furnace. Heating of operations are functioning properly at this time, blower motor leaking a little oil and blower capacitor below specs-17 out of 20mfd, evaporator coil rusted and the system is r22. System upgrade due to age and r22 phase out.
12/6/22 Upon arrival found system cooling and heating. System inspected heat and cooling operation and found the system to be very dirty inside. Changed out the filter and recommended the customer a UV system. Customer agreed and we cleaned the biological growth off inside the system as well as installed the UV transformer, ballast, and bulb. Washed off condenser coil and checked the charge. Charge was good as temp on suction line was 100 above ambient outside. It was 70 with a 165 temp. System was left heating and cooling as it should
STU performed today, outdoor unit refrigerant levels are good at this time and the dual run capacitor is testing within manufacturer specifications. Indoor unit filter is clean and the primary drain line is clear at this time, all ignition components are functioning properly and the inducer motor is pulling proper amperage.
When I arrived the thermostat was satisfied at 78, I spoke with the tenant over the phone and he feels very strongly that the thermostat is the issue, claiming that it works fine all day but when it gets the coldest at night it just stops working. I cycled the system from heating to satisfied 3 times and the thermostat worked without issue everytime. Ignition components and inducer motor are functioning properly. I then spoke with the homeowner and let him know what I saw and what I’m being told and that I honestly don’t see an issue with the system but gave him a thermostat price, also let him know that since the technician left last night with the system working and I arrived to the system working that there will be a service fee, customer wants to speak with office about service fee
Tech arrived at a service call. Upon arrival the resident said that the system wasn't working. It was jumped at the wall and there was not thermostat installed. The system was functioning in this condition. The thermostat was reinstalled and the system was not responding to commands. The wiring was evaluated and found to be faulty. The thermostat was not receiving 24 volt power. The wiring was cut and spliced. This gave the thermostat proper voltage and the system regained functionality. Upon inspection the tech noticed that there was no drain safety. The gas flex line was penetrating the sharp furnace cabinet. Only hard piping should penetrate the cabinet. Due to the risk of damage the outside system was not evaluated as the breaker box is has a Federal Pacific disconnect. This is considered a hazardous panel. The system was functioning upon departure.
Upon arrival for service unit on and not heating. Inspected indoor unit. Fuze out on board. Replaced Fuze. Unit came on and heated. All amp draws and voltages normal. Left unit on and heating.
Upon arrival found system satisfied at thermostat. Tested system and AC mode. Found blower motor working properly blower capacitor was also within manufacturer's specs. Blower wheel was clean. All wiring was tight inside the electrical control panel. Drain line was clear. I evaluated the outdoor unit found Kohl's dirty and caked with mud. Dual capacitor was within manufactured respects. Refrigerant levels were good. Contactor was buzzing very loudly not making a solid contact. Advise customer of the issue customer agreed to the replacement found no other issues with the outdoor unit. I evaluated the furnace and found clean combustion. All safeties were working properly. Gas line is within code found no issues with the furnace.
Inducer motor locked up, system will not operate without Inducer motor. Pressure switch, spark ignitor, blower motor leaking oil. System upgrade do to age condition and refrigerate phase out. Going to talk with daughter.
Found breaker tripped to condenser in main panel. Reset breaker and found no issues, compressor amps normal, no rubbing on compressor plug, no wiring issues from disconnect to panel. Could not replicate issue , recommend replacing breaker.
Tech arrived at a STU. Upon inspection, the capacitor was almost out of tolerance and replaced. The contactor was in working condition. The Delta and refrigerant was at acceptable levels. The filter was clean. The drain system was clear. The UV system was functioning. The system did not appear to have Surge Protection. Surge Protection was added today. The system was functioning upon departure.
