How Do You Know If You Need AC Repair?
Knowing the signs of an air conditioning malfunction can help you identify pending problems before they become a huge headache. It's important to have your unit inspected at the first sign of an issue to prevent bigger, costly repairs down the road.
Your AC May Need Repair If:
The airflow isn't as strong as it used to be. If the AC has weak airflow, make sure your filters are changed and all of your settings are correct. Check the vents to make sure there is no debris blocking the air. Especially if you have pets that shed hair a lot, you’ll find that particles and hair will get trapped and cause the airflow to slow down. The unit is over 10 years old. Your AC unit can last a decade or more when properly cared for, but it only has this kind of longevity when you take care of the routine maintenance and have it serviced annually. There are many tasks that you can perform on your own, but a yearly check-up will ensure that everything is running smoothly. The thermostat temperature doesn't match the indoor temperature. If the airflow is good but the temperature in your home doesn’t match the reading on the AC thermostat, then you have a problem. There might be an issue with your thermostat, but it could also be an issue with the unit itself. The AC is making unusual noises. If your AC unit seems like it’s working hard or you hear sounds that aren’t normal, you’ll want to have your unit checked out. There are many different factors that can cause this. Sometimes a piece of debris may get trapped in the unit and is easily removed, and other times it can be more severe.
AC Repair Vs. Replacement
In the Texas heat, you have two options when your AC breaks down: repair or replacement. After an expert inspects your unit, they may find that all it needs is a simple fix to get going again. Sometimes, though, the unit is beyond repair or too old to justify a fix. In some cases, replacement is the more cost-effective, long-term solution.
Your AC May Need To Be Replaced If:Â
It's old or outdated. Exactly how long your AC lasts depends on the brand, how it’s used and how well it’s maintained by a licensed professional. If the AC is more than 8 years old you may opt to replace the unit as opposed to sinking more money into a unit that’s coming close to the end of its life. It needs repair after repair. If you’ve had multiple repairs over the last few years you should consider a replacement. While our Benbrook AC repair experts are always willing to repair your AC, it shouldn't need a fix every season. It requires outdated parts for repair. Since the beginning of 2020, all manufacturing of R22 Freon has ceased. Using the banned coolant is still permissible but it’s only going to get more expensive as it becomes increasingly scarce. If your AC requires banned or outdated parts, it may be time to replace it.

This system has a torn fan blade and broken motor mount it beats up the condensor coil because of it. The system contactor control unit is burnt causing the compressor to have inrush problem. The cap is weak further causing the compressor to have in rush problems. The compressor jackets is broken apart because of the rattling of the unit. System could benefit from a Soft start. This customer if out of town and would like all this emailed to him so he can discuss his option with wife. Not ready to see comfort advisor.
Performed inspection of Blower, Evaporator coil and duct system. Duct system has slight dust levels not enough to warrant duct cleaning but right at Evaporator coil there are spots of biological growth build up. Recommended uv system to clear and treat air.
Arrived onsite customer had a walk in shower tub in hall bathroom that was not draining properly. Went ahead and ran small hand auger through drain for tub. Pulled back some hair out of drain. Tested after repair was made everything draining properly now.
For this heating tune-up I inspected the furnace and condenser, all equipment was measuring within manufacturer's specs and running well. For a 16 year old furnace overall it appears to be functioning exceptionally well with a new condenser and evaporator coil. I recommend it to the customer getting another duct cleaning to aid an allergy prevention as well as a condensation water treatment strip.
For this heating tune up I inspected the upstairs and downstairs furnaces. All equipment was measuring at the manufacturer specs and running well with the furnaces going through the sequence of operations and heating the home. I recommended to the customer getting a duct cleaning as both systems have quite a bit of dust inside the system and plenums and the blower wheels are both dirty which can reduce efficiency over time. Additionally the wife stated her husband has allergies so I recommend adding a UV system to either both systems or the system that serves the area they spend the most time. The wife stated they will wait until the new year and give us a call back and review the recommendations.

11/4/24 Upon arrival tech was shown to the condenser air handler and thermostat. Technician talked to home owner ask a couple questions once homeowner and technician were done. Talking technician started on the condenser technician cleaned out and waxed condenser technician wasn’t able to get good readings on refrigerant due to outside conditions, technician had a good Delta split technician also found contactor was asking and is showing signs of age. Once technician was done with the condenser technician headed to the attic where technician found dryer vent was disconnected and lint was everywhere which is not OK due to it being a fire hazard technician, then got all of his readings from his air handler and talk to homeowner explaining and suggesting a new contactor as well as fixing the dryer vent
His fans pull cordhad come out of the mechanism in the fan and there really isn't a way for me to attach it back without tearing the fan apart and even then at that point it would be more cost effective and timely to install a new fan
Stu completed Cst air scrubber is no longer being used recommend cell replacement Electrical heat strips are heavily built up with biological growth recommended cleaning Systems is on and running efficiently in both heating and cooling Cst declined repairs at this time but will follow up in a month or so
Tech Cody arrived to customer's home and met the homeowner. When I arrived the homeowner informed me that when they woke up this morning the house was warm and the thermostat was blank. I diagnosed a failed transformer that was taking in 240 volts but not stepping it down to 24 volts. I shared my findings with the homeowner and she wanted me to replace it today. I conducted the repair and when I turned on the power the system began to operate normally. System was cooling when I left.
Stu completed Installed customer supplied thermostat Heat strips amp draws out of range due to extreme build up of.biological growth Supply heavily impacted as well as coils and blower motor Recommend cleaning and installing uc system Cst declined at this time
Arrived to no cool. Discovered that the 45mfd capacitor and compressor saver had both failed. Replaced both parts under P&L warranty. System running and cooling upon departure.
Quoted a level 1 24k straight cool horizontal plus code kit and also adding another return for$9,200
Tech Cody arrived to customer's home and met the homeowner. System is a 3yo carrier infinity series heat pump. INDOOR: I replaced the filter, the system had a temperature split of 20 degrees. The coil was clean, the blower wheel was clean and the blower motor was in good condition. The drain pan was clean and the drain line was clear. Heat strips were functioning within range. OUTDOOR: I washed and waxed the unit before taking any readings. The compressor and fan motor were operating within manufacturer range. The control board was in good condition and I dusted it out with my brush. I shared my findings with the homeowner, system was cooling when I left.
2011 3.5t goodman hp closet upflow. System performance evaluation - Upon inspection of the evaporator coil, at the top of the intake side, on both sides are discoloration which at a glance seems like oil and refrigerant staining. Performed a courtesy leak detection and as soon as I put my detector to the surface the alarm went off. To confirm, I put my refrigerant guages on and checked for proper superheat and subcool; both were outside of the appropriate tolerance range. Leak confirmed. Furthermore, the 45/5 dual run capacitor, when tested underload was over 20% deficient per manufacturers tolerance of 5% - a failing part and extreme stress on systemcomponents. Blower wheel is dirty and indoor cabin is filled with biological growth. DeltaT of 14°. I discussed and shared all information to both homeowners. The Son called and I explained to him as well. Estimates made for system restoration and emailed. CA appointment set for 10/16/24 @10am confirmed. Son will attempt to be avai
For this job I installed a new air handler disconnect. Wired it accordingly and left with the system running and cooling.
