Signs You Need A/C Repair
Being aware of the early signs that your air conditioning system may need repairs can save you from a costly breakdown. Some of the most common indicators include:
- Insufficient Cooling: If your AC is blowing warm air or struggling to cool your home, it’s time for an inspection.
- Unusual Noises: Banging, rattling, or squealing noises often signal that something is wrong with your system.
- Strange Odors: A foul or musty smell coming from your AC vents could indicate mold growth or electrical issues.
- High Energy Bills: If your electricity bills suddenly spike without an obvious reason, it could be due to an inefficient air conditioning system.
- Frequent Cycling: If your system is turning on and off more frequently than normal, this could indicate a problem with the thermostat or other internal components.
Air Conditioning Repair Service Cost in Allen, TX
The cost of AC repair in Allen can vary depending on the issue. On average, minor repairs may range from $150 to $500, while more complex repairs could cost $1,000 or more.
Common factors that influence the cost include:
- Type of Issue: Some problems, like refrigerant leaks, can be more expensive to fix than others, such as clogged filters.
- Age of the Unit: Older units often require more labor and harder-to-find parts, increasing repair costs.
- Warranty: If your system is still under warranty, you may only need to pay for labor or specific components, reducing your out-of-pocket expenses.
How to Avoid Costly Repairs
To avoid frequent AC repairs and the associated costs, regular maintenance is key.
Here are some tips to keep your system running smoothly:
- Change Air Filters Regularly: Dirty filters can reduce airflow, causing the system to work harder, which leads to increased wear and tear.
- Schedule Regular Inspections: Having an HVAC technician inspect your system at least once a year can catch potential issues before they escalate.
- Keep the Unit Clean: Regularly cleaning the exterior of your AC unit and removing any debris will ensure efficient operation.
- Seal Leaks: Ensuring that your ducts are sealed properly will prevent cooled air from escaping, reducing strain on your system.

Allen, TX HVAC Company Reviews
Did extremely well
Mike R and his associate were extremely helpful. They were clean and worked with care on our old house. They were very informative about the status of our AC system and I would go with his team for our next service.
Blake did the best inspection of my AC units. No other person ever did a better job. He explained ever issue and non- issue.
My daughter Regina was trying to get her hot water heater fixed and mark and Javier left
Casey is very professional. He explained what he would be doing at the beginning of the service and then explained what he did when the service was completed. He answered all my questions. We have always had great service with Comfort Experts.
HVAC Technician rates Five (5) Stars; Call Center Systemics are abysmal
This was a system check on two units - one for the upstairs rooms and one for the downstairs rooms. The checks of the indoor half of each system were rapid and professionally performed. One difference from prior checks was reading the temperature of the conditioned air as it exited the evaporator and fan unit by inserting a temperature probe into the main duct. One system had air 20 degrees cooler than the ambient air in the house, the other system had was 14 degrees cooler. The outside systems (compressors) were then checked. The main checks seemed to be the status of the start capacitor and hosing down the coils. What seemed to be missing was a check of the freon pressures. The explanation was that the temperature drops on the inside units indicated adequate performance. I would have thought that the unit with only the 14 degree drop probably would indicate some issue with freon pressure or levels in the unit. I believe this is the first system check-up that has been performed on any of my heat pump units that did not include freon tests. I reserve judgement on how I well the checks indicate system health until next year. Don Shurtz
The field tech was cordial and professional. Ryan explained what he would be doing and answered any questions asked. The. seven hour window for service time is excessive. We have been platinum members for roughly ten years. A four hour window is what we previously had.
We've been using Comfort Experts for years. Good service and responsive.
Jordan did a great job determining what the issue was with our ac unit, and replacing what needed to be placed quickly. We appreciated that we were not charged an additional service fee, since someone had just come out to service our unit 2 1/2 weeks ago.

When I got here system not heating condenser fan motor was not running while it was in heat, causing it ice over need to come back to change out condenser fan motor thermostat would not turn on heat strips so I changed it out system now heating via heat strips. Will need to come back to change out fan motor.
Investment has been made an email regarding the changing of five lights four of which are flush mounted light fixtures one of which is a recessed light that is already in a can that needs to be changed out with an LED adding in one plug brand new and putting in a plug underneath switches with an already existing box
I was her for a super tune up system had a Delta within range. There was no April air filter in the Plenum blower was a little dirty inducer motor within tolerance. All safeties are working refrigerant within range condenser was cleaned. Capacitor was out of tolerance so I changed it out system factory specs.
Came to customers house for tune up and talked about adding a search protector because fans went out from a surge and might come back to swap out fans when they get new ones

Today I performed a super tune-up on a 8-year-old gas furnace under warranty checked everything indoor and out and heat mode and in cool mode flushed the condensate drain line with white vinegar replaced the air filter replaced the medium for the humidifier replaced the UV bulb found the compressor to be over amping and brought this up to the homeowner as we have recommended a compressor saver kit for years now he decided to take this recommendation today as well as signed up for the new home and budget protection plan
Heat tune up on 2005 Payne air handler checked all components filter was changed recently 1 of 3 heat strips not working thermostat needs to be updated and no water protection. recommend upgrade system due to age and condition as well as R22 refrigerant. Customer has home warranty that will fix or replace the system. Recommend having electrical panel serviced.
For this heating tune up I inspected the furnace and also took a peek at the condenser. Furnace overall was running well and he did like it should. I recommended to the customer replacing the UV bulb or upgrading the UV system as well as adding a hard start kit as a system is 12 years old and as they age there's more stress added to the compressor. I went over the true cost calculator with the customer and the price of repair versus replacement and at this time the customer chose to go ahead with just the recommendations at this time.
10/30/24 Customer wants to reschedule for tomorrow at 10am.
Filter clean Drain clear Condenser coil clean Blower dusty Coil brand new Biological growth growing in the supply plenum Duct coming of the end of the plenum should be moved to get better airflow through the rest of the house Declined all today Compressor exceeding LRA new hard start Offered
Customer had a water heater that was 06 model advised customer not recommended to flush once it is that age and never been serviced. Wrote estimate for replacement customer said he would either wait for it to leak than take care of the issue now.
Arrived onsite customer made clear just wanted a free inspection of plumbing system as he just bought the home. Made some recommendations for replacement and repair of items found in inspection. Customer will call us if he wants any items taken care of.
For the evaluation I inspected the air handler and condenser, besides the inrush amps all equipment was measuring within manufacturer specs and running well. I spoke to the customer about her inrush amps draw and how that can take a toll on the compressor and she allowed me to install a hard start kit to lower the amp draw.
Arrived for evaluation Washed condensor and tightened connections Refrigerant is good 20 Delta Capacitor is out of tolerance Recommended membership, capacitor, drain switch , drain pan Recommended soft start, blower motor System left on cooling at exit
Arrived for cooling tune up Washed condensor and tightened connections Filter is clean Refrigerant is good Delta is good Recommended capacitor replacement and wire repair Reccomended thermostat - original is unable to work Reccomended comfort advisor and plumber Comfort advisor scheduled for 9/17/24 at 9am Plumber scheduled for 9/17/24 at 1PM System left on off at exit
For this cooling tune-up I inspected two furnaces and two condensers. Both systems are older and in rough shape. From everything I found both systems would need over $1,500 in repairs to get back to an estimated 80% efficiency. Downstairs unit is from 2002 and the upstairs unit is from 2011. The downstairs unit blower capacitor is out of tolerance as well as the compressor capacitor, when I gauged up I had a higher than Target superheat indicating the system is low on charge and also has a leak. The fan is pulling roughly 85% of the FLA and the compressor does not sound very good. The data tag was so faded that I was unable to make out any of the number values but based off what I was hearing the compressor is struggling. I spoke to the customer about my recommendations and how my overall recommendation would just be to replace the systems as they're both out of warranty and need a substantial amount of repairs. Customer stated he would let the system run until it fails and then repl
Performed cooling tune up. Found no issues. Replaced a cap that I damaged in the process.
Outdoor unit not turning on due to low pressure. System low on refridgerant. Customer wants to replace his system but only wants quotes no further visits.
