Don’t Wait Till The Power Grid Goes Down

You’ve likely experienced a power outage or two at some point in your life. However, our nation’s power grid is often something we take for granted and forget about. Yet, if it were to go down, due to an all too frequent cyberattack or physical damage, our routines would be disturbed for more than a few hours, potentially lasting days, months, or even years.

If the power grid goes down, millions of people would literally be left in the dark about what’s going to happen next. No power grid means no electricity, communications, or reliable transport of food and water coming in. Therefore, power isn’t something to play with. Once you’re in the midst of a nationwide outage, it’s too late to plan, and you’ll likely wish you did.

To help you prepare before time runs out, the prepping professionals at Comfort Experts Inc. compiled a list of items you can stock up on or install in case all electricity goes awry.

Flashlights

Grabbing a few flashlights from the local hardware store, to keep on hand, helps bring immediate light in the case of a massive outage. This handy tool will help you see what you’re doing in the dark, so you can fire up a back generator or access emergency supplies. It’s especially useful at night when you don’t have the sun’s daylight to guide you.

Food and Water

Our commerce can’t flow without power. This means there wouldn’t be any more shipments of food or water coming in regularly. Stocking up on extra cans and cases of water is a helpful but temporary solution. Iodine drops help to convert dirty water into usable drinking water if you have to find it from unconventional sources when you eventually run out.

Backup Generators

Installing a generator as a precaution for power outages, gives you a backup energy source, differing from the nation’s main line. Even if the grid goes down, your generator can still power up and return some semblance of your daily life. Generators vary in size and capacity. Smaller models provide electricity to a few appliances, while larger ones power your entire home.

Solar Panel Installation

Finally, installing solar panels offers you a solution that isn’t dependent on the power grid or the lifespan of a generator. Solar panels convert the sun’s rays into usable electricity for your home. While generators run for hours at a time, they can wear out quickly when they are acting as your home’s main source of energy. Solar panels typically last around 25 years and only wean slightly in effectiveness when they are faced with a cloudy day.

Trust the professionals at Comfort Experts Inc. With Your Solar Panels

The experienced electricians at Comfort Experts Inc. in Dallas-Fort Worth, Texas are here to help you power up your home during an outage or power grid failure. Don’t get stuck without power to your air conditioner during the summer heat. We specialize in solar panel repairs and installations, to provide you with the most reliable backup electricity options. Our professional electricians can walk you through our solar energy process with ease.

Don’t hesitate to call us when you’re looking for solar upgrades. Reach us at, (817) 341-5149.

Benefits of a Furnace Tune-Up

Routine furnace maintenance is the key to everlasting comfort! Many homeowners end up skipping out on furnace tune-ups and paying the price when their heating system fails much faster than it should have. Instead of dealing with frustrating breakdowns, you should schedule a furnace tune-up.

Some of the key benefits of furnace maintenance include:

  • Enhanced comfort: Say goodbye to cold spots and weak airflow when you schedule furnace maintenance. Your system will deliver a powerful, even heating, guaranteed to help you and your family stay cozy all winter long.
  • Improved indoor air quality: During maintenance, your technician cleans out your system and changes your filter, which means your home won’t be blasted with tons of built-up dust, dirt, dander, and other air pollutants.
  • Energy efficiency: Furnaces in peak working order do not waste a ton of energy when heating a home. Routine maintenance helps your system run better, which reduces energy consumption.
  • Extended lifespan: Unmaintained systems experience a ton of wear and tear, which leads to frequent breakdowns and early system failure. On the other hand, properly maintained furnaces last up to five years longer than those that aren’t.
  • Savings: Well-maintained furnaces don’t waste a ton of energy and don’t break down often. That means you can expect to save tons of money on your utility bills and by not paying for costly repairs!
  • Peace of mind: Is there anything worse than when your furnace breaks down in the middle of winter, leaving your family in the cold? We don’t think so either. By scheduling a professional tune-up, you can rest easy knowing your system won’t break down because it is in the best shape possible.

Since 1962, the experts at Comfort Experts have provided exceptional, affordable heating and cooling services to countless residents. When you turn to us for a furnace tune-up, you can rest easy knowing your system is in the hands of the most qualified professionals around.

HVAC Tips Every Homeowner Should Know

HVAC Tips Every Homeowner Should Know

As a homeowner, there are a lot of things to worry about around the house. From plumbing to the electricity to air quality to temperature, it’s a lot to manage. It can be hard to learn all you can about these various systems, which is why we want to help.

Since we’re the experts when it comes to home comfort, we want to give you some tips to manage your HVAC in the most effective and efficient way possible. Read on for helpful information on keeping your HVAC running smoothly.

Change Your Air Filters Regularly

One of the best ways to maintain your air conditioning and heating system is to change out the air filters. The general time frame is every 30 to 90 days, but this varies depending on your home size, system, and use.

Air filters are a key component of the HVAC system. They remove harmful particles like dust from the air as it passes through the unit, keeping your air clean and comfortable. When the filter gets clogged, it can hinder airflow, making your air conditioner or furnace work harder. This drives up your energy bills and increases wear and tear on your system.

Changing out the filters requires only a few minutes of your time and can save you money!

Keep the System Clean

Since so much air passes through your system, and with your AC unit having a portion outdoors, it’s inevitable that it will get dirty. Cleaning your system is easy, with just some wiping down or dusting.

Check your outdoor unit for any fallen branches or leaves that may be stuck inside. These may damage the fan or prevent airflow, so it’s best to remove them. Plus, you can wipe down the sides of the unit to remove any dirt that has built up.

Inside, wipe down your air vents to remove dust. You can even take a vacuum to the vent opening and clear out any area you can reach.

Manage Your Temperature

The way you manage your home temperature has a major impact both on your comfort and your system efficiency. The recommended indoor temperature for maximum efficiency is 78 degrees.

When you leave home, adjust the temperature up or down depending on the season. This will save you money, as you won’t be cooling or heating an empty home! And if you upgrade to a smart thermostat, this process can happen much easier and will be more precise.

Also, if you get home and it’s really hot inside, resist the temptation to crank the AC until it cools down. Set the thermostat to the temperature you usually have and maybe run some fans to help circulate air.

Don’t Skip Annual Maintenance

If your HVAC system is running smoothly, you may wonder why it’s necessary to have a professional perform a tune-up every year. But a tune-up is exactly what your system needs before being used on a daily basis! Trust us, the nominal cost of a tune-up is much less than that of a major repair when your system fails.

An HVAC technician will do a complete overview of your system and make sure it is running smoothly, and figure out any areas of improvement. They’ll check all connections, wiring, component stability, and more. When they’re done, your unit will work like new! This is crucial for maintaining efficiency and reducing the chance of significant breakdowns during the peak season.

Keeping You Comfortable

When you want your home to be at peak comfort, the team at Comfort Experts Inc. is here to help. Our expert technicians will ensure your HVAC system is running at peak efficiency. Call us today at (817) 341-5149 to set up your annual tune-up.

Emergency Preparedness

Be Prepared for the Next Time!

Fellow North Texans!

It has been a challenging week for all of us. The last time we had a severe dose of winter weather like this was 10 years ago. Unfortunately, we can’t count on it being another ten years before we face severe weather again. Knowing it will happen again means we need to do our best to be better prepared. Imagine the shock some of our fellow homeowners are facing with $10,000 electric bills!

It’s incredible and frightening at the same time!

Now is the time to act. Preparing for the future is the only thing that makes sense.

High Efficiency

Congratulations to those of you who have already upgraded your heating and air systems! As the electric companies recoup their increased expenses by raising electric rates, you’ll experience higher but less intense bills than your neighbors. If your heating and air system is over 10 years of age, now is an excellent time to have us out for a completely free design, service, and evaluation of how low your utility costs can be. New systems can cut your current bills in half and protect you from the price increases to come.

Generators

Power outages are inevitable here in North Texas. We’ve become used to running water, lights, refrigerators, and other electric devices as a routine part of our daily existence. When the power goes out, we don’t want to be unprepared. A generator can keep you from sitting in a completely dark house while you lose all the contents of your refrigerator and risk additional damage from frozen pipes. Generators can run on gasoline, diesel or propane, and they typically have two electrical outlets.

Solar

Solar Power can dramatically cut your utility bills and can also provide power to your home with a battery backup system when an outage strikes. As electric prices start to increase, solar power makes even more sense financially.

As always, we’re here to help! Give us a call for more information.

How to Avoid Voiding Your HVAC Warranty

Unbeknownst to you, you may be doing something to void your HVAC warranty.  When that time comes when you are depending on your warranty to help afford costly repairs, it can be a big inconvenience to find out that your warranty is void.  Be sure you know what steps to take in order to keep your warranty intact.  Be careful to avoid these four common mistakes when it comes to your HVAC warranty.

Register Your Warranty

After purchasing a warranty, the very first step is to register the warranty.  Manufacturers often want you to register your warranty to have your name and info in their system and to provide proof of purchase.  In order for a warranty to be valid, it must be registered within a certain number of days after purchase.  Be sure to do this first thing before you forget so that your warranty won’t be voided.

Ensure Correct Installation

Proper installation of an HVAC system is imperative to not only the system working efficiently, but also to keep your warranty effective.  Poor installation can lead to a multitude of problems, one of which is a voided warranty.  Be sure you choose an expert HVAC company that backs their work so that you can rest easy that your HVAC system was installed correctly.  Then, should anything unexpected happen, your warranty will be able to help pay for the repairs.

Use Approved Replacement Parts

Most purchased warranties only cover the major parts, not the smaller parts such as the air filter or fan belts.  These parts fall on the homeowner to replace regularly or if something should break.  But manufacturers are particular about what parts should be used when replacing existing parts of an HVAC system.  Check your warranty and know what parts are acceptable to use so that you don’t accidentally void your warranty.  Even if another part is cheaper than the recommended part, it could cost you exponentially in the long run.

Schedule Annual Maintenance

Every year, before you begin running the furnace for winter and again before you turn on the AC for summer, you should schedule an annual maintenance check to make sure everything is running smoothly and to correct any problems.  Annual maintenance reduced the risk of wear and tear as well as having to invest in more expensive repairs down the road.  An experienced technician checks over every part of the HVAC system and makes any necessary repairs before use. If you don’t do this, it can be seen as neglect and can void the warranty.  Additionally, be sure to keep any maintenance paperwork to show proof of maintenance s this could lead to your warranty being voided as well.

For repairs or annual maintenance, you can count on our professional technicians at Comfort Experts.  Do your part to ensure your warranty is good, and we will do our part to make sure your HVAC system is in great shape all year long.

Comfort Experts President Honored for Military Support

Comfort Experts take pride in their military employees.  Their support of our military extends to their very own ac repair technicians.  Comfort Experts/Hobson AC President Brett Hobson’s respect for our country’s military is evident in the way he supports his own active military employees.  Such open support of those in the military has earned him a high honor as he recently received the Patriot Award.

A Prestigious Award

The Patriot Award is awarded through the ESGR, Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve program.  The ESGR, established in 1972 by the Department of Defense, was founded to bring awareness to the cooperation and support of civilian employers that recognize the importance of their Reserve Component service member employees.  This award specifically honors those employers to prevent conflict from arising in the workplace because of an employee’s military commitment and duty to their country.  The Patriot Award is given to those employers that support citizen warriors by allowing for flexible schedules, time off both before and after deployment, granting absences as needed, and caring for families of employees serving in the military.  It truly is an honor to be presented with this award.

President Brett Hobson Goes Above and Beyond

President Hobson was nominated for the Patriot Award by employee Michael Schultz.  Michael Schultz is an employee of Comfort Experts and is also active in the National Guard.  When asked why he nominated Brett Hobson, Schultz spoke of Hobson’s loyal support of his military service.  He said, “I nominated him because he doesn’t question when I have to leave for military duty. I had a physical fitness test last week, it wasn’t on the schedule, and he just said, ‘See you when you get back,’”.

Schultz also went on to say how meaningful it was to have an employer who supported his military service.  He spoke of coming from previous companies who demanded to see paperwork to work at Comfort Experts where Mr. Hobson was so quick to offer to understand and what a wonderful feeling that was to see an employer go above and beyond in their support of military personnel.

A Company that Supports Our Military

Hobson AC/Comfort Experts employs over 50 active military and veterans.  They take pride in hiring military men and women who give everything to honor our country.  Brett Hobson himself said that this company strives to create a culture that supports the military, including members of the Guard.  He went on to state that veterans are some of the most hardworking employees he has at his company so it’s not only the right thing to do but also great for his business.

Veterans are extensively trained during their time in the military and come into the workforce with many of the skills needed to be successful at their jobs already.  President Hobson stated, “We can teach them out to fix an air conditioner, but we can’t teach them how to be a nice person.”

When you support Comfort Experts, you know you are supporting a professional, experienced company that not only goes above and beyond to provide the very best in AC services, but also goes above and beyond to support our military.  Work with the best of the best when you call Comfort Experts for all your HVAC needs today.

Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve

Few people consider how our National Guard and Reserve Service members balance the challenges of maintaining their civilian jobs when they are deployed for active duty. In order to promote cooperation and understanding between employers and service members, the Department of Defense established ESGR in 1972.

Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve is a program designed to assist in resolving the conflict between Reserve Component Service members and their civilian employers.

ESGR has created a culture that enables all employers to support and value our service members. For the past four years, employers across the country have met at the Pentagon to publicly sign a statement of support for America’s Citizen Warriors. At Comfort Experts, we consider it an honor and a privilege to support America’s Citizen Warriors.

We value their service to our country and honor their need to be ensured a successful transition from active duty to civilian employment. We recognize the disruption and stress that can occur in the life of an employee called to active duty. We are committed to easing this burden via support and understanding. The freedom that our National Guard and Reserve servicemembers protect is the same freedom that our family-owned business is able to exercise when supporting our employees.

Patriotism and a broad love of America are the frameworks for our beliefs at Comfort Experts. That’s why we were very excited to have our owner Brett Hobson visit the Pentagon to publicly affirm our company’s support of America’s Citizen Warrior. Brett was a bit nervous, albeit excited to be at the Pentagon. Brett said the ceremony and making this bold statement of support to go above and beyond for our employees was one of his great pleasures in life.

Comfort Expert’s support of Armed Service members isn’t just limited to the Guard and Reserves. We actively seek to hire former service members, which shows in our existing staff that’s currently 80% veterans. Veterans are often our best-performing employees. For that reason, our door is always open to hiring candidates with military backgrounds. At Comfort Experts, we are proud and grateful to be First Responders in Veteran Employment.

Top 4 Tips to Improve Your Comfort Level This Summer

As we are approaching some of the hottest summer months of the year, it is important to take the necessary steps to keep your family cool all throughout even the hottest part of the summer.  Being hot inside your home can cause anyone discomfort and lead to irritability.  But there are some things you can do to ensure you stay cool and comfortable each and every day.

Open Registers and Room Doors

The more registers and doors that are open throughout the house, the better the airflow.  Closing too many vents or registers is similar to a clogged bathroom drain.  Just like water can’t get through a clog, air can’t get to the rest of the house through a closed vent or door.  Not only can this affect airflow, but it can also cause your AC unit to work harder to cool the home, leading to increased wear and tear on the unit or even higher energy bills from forcing the HVAC system to work overtime.  Even opening registers a little bit is still better than keeping them closed as air is allowed to move and circulate all throughout the rooms.

Keep the Fan On

Much like keeping the vents open, keeping the fan on keeps the air active and moving throughout the house so you can optimize the airflow.  This will keep the temperature cooler and allow your AC unit to not work as hard to cool the home.  Unless you are gone for an extended period of time, it is a good idea to keep the fan on for circulation.

Change the Air Filter Regularly

It can be easy to forget about the air filter, especially throughout the winter months.  But it is important for your airflow that you change the air filter regularly.  It is recommended that you change the air filter about every three months.  In the summertime when you use your air conditioner more, it may be beneficial to change your air filter even more often.  Changing air filters will improve the efficiency of the air conditioner, improve air quality, and increase airflow.

Be Aware of Humidity Levels

Check the humidity levels in your home, especially during the summer when humidity levels are much higher.  If you have a humidifier, set it to the appropriate level to ensure an appropriate balance of humidity so you can remain comfortable all throughout the heat.  High humidity and condensation are not only uncomfortable but can also lead to health problems or damage inside the home.  So be sure to check humidity levels to improve your comfort level.

If your air conditioning unit isn’t functioning optimally or you are unsure how to change the air filter, Comfort Expert HVAC technicians can help.  A yearly tune-up is always recommended to be sure your AC unit is ready for the summer heat.  Please give us a call today for any questions or concerns you may have and our trusted AC repair technicians will be sure to do what it takes to keep you and your family cool and comfortable.
